![]() ![]() The violence and primitive dialogue are broken up by passages that either describe the lead mans rather predictable inner demons and anguish, or give the reader various views of the surroundings usually seen from a car or a bar.Įverything is brimmingwith colors and drama the sun paints the sky at dusk or dawn, or it is white-hot at noon, forests are misty and filled with flowers in gorgeous colors. This may be entertaining for a little while, but it tends to get boring in the longer run. ![]() But, lo and behold, his innate genuine strength of character and a little help from a gorgeous lady (who sees his true potential behind the rough surface), get him back on track! The characters are 2-dimensional – like caricatures, and the dialogue is primitive as if in a comic strip. He gets into serious problems with his superiors in the force because of his unorthodox (read: brutal & street-smart) methods.Ībout halfway through the story his badge is pulled in, and he reverts to a bout of severe drinking. Haunted by nightmares, he gets a couple of hours of fitful sleep as dawn breaks. The plot follows a well-established routine of police fiction that you have probably encountered a hundred times already The lead man Robicheaux, is ex-soldier, ex-alcoholic, ex-married.
